UST has no plan to match tobacco rival's price cut

Smokeless tobacco maker UST Inc. UST.N on Tuesday said it does not plan to match a North American price cut announced by rival Swedish Match AB SWMA.ST on its low-priced Timber Wolf brand.
UST's products include premium-priced Copenhagen and Skoal. The lower end of the market has grown over the past couple of years amid a tough economic climate, leading UST to introduce less expensive brands. Still, it gets most of its sales at the high end.
Swedish Match, based in Stockholm, said on Tuesday it would lower the list price of Timber Wolf by more than 30 percent. The brand costs about $1 less per can than premium brands.
"We certainly are aware of what Swedish Match is doing with Timber Wolf," UST spokesman Mike Bazinet said. "Our strategy remains the same."
